Fallout: New Vegas Dev Diary - Guns and Sound

This Fallout: New Vegas developer diary shows you some of the guns you'll be using to kill humans, ghouls, and mutants alike. Then, it talks about sound design. Well, sound design as it relates to guns! Also, some music too, I guess.

Anything on any new engine tech?

    Any new graphics improvements?

Is the gameplay the same? (VATS still there right?)

Very disappointing, as the graphics looked decent in 2008, but definitely are showing its age now.

If it's another 100 hour campaign then I can handle graphics from 2008.

No, the graphics never looked good. Besides the occasional pretty sunset, all Bethesda games look like complete shit. It seems like there is never any real art direction, textures might be high resolution, but they are a muddy, dirty mess. Surfaces have either too much bump mapping or none at all. The models are rigid and awkward looking. Animations are complete ass. Characters have no real sense of weight. etc etc...

The writing and voice acting isn't much better and the gameplay is completely neutered.

I really wish we could just get another 2d isometric Fallout.

Oblivion had better graphics than Fallout 3.

I thought for the idea of a devastated Washington DC wasteland, the engine was fine. Everything was annihilated.

I'm riding on Obsidian's signature storytelling and dialogue for New Vegas. Along with more slow-mo head explosions.

From what I've seen, I think New Vegas' graphics look worse than Fallout 3. Everything looks really muddy. But who is going to play this for the graphics anyways?

I call total bullshit on this. The only thing wrong with Bethesda's graphics are the models and animations. Beyond that, the environments in Oblivion/Fallout 3 are some of the best landscapes in videogames, period.

I'm not disappointed by this. More of the same can be a good thing.
Knowing its just same thing with added story/items. I'm curious to know how much they'll charge for the game.

Gameplay is king. Graphics are secondary.

I think if FO3 was Oblivion with guns I'd have VATSed Todd Howard.

It was a lot more open-ended than Oblivion, you're not forced to kill characters you might like anymore. Doesn't hold a candle to the originals though, that's how 1-dimensional Oblivion was.

Gotta have some faith in Obsidian, they are putting the hardcore back in, even if it's in to FO3.

Fallout: New Vegas is simply a game for people that Loved Fallout 3 and want more of the Fallout universe but in a different location. I'm really excited about this and the additions that were made.
