More Halo: Reach Info Revealed About Forge, Races, Assassinations, Landmines, and FX Filters

Bungie has dropped a slew of new information about Halo: Reach in their official weekly update.

A rather extensive (incomplete, but representative) list of Forge items can now be perused, next to each item's cost. Would-be map-builders will have a pool of $10,000 in-game dollars to draw from to build a custom map, and the list of Forge items and their respective pricing will give a pretty good idea about how many items (boxes, bridges, platforms, bunkers, etc.) can be crammed into any given map.

The update also discloses some new information about in-game assassinations. Though some new animations were available in the recent Halo: Reach beta, the full retail product will include over forty different up-close-and-personal ways to kill your friends. Most of the forty context-specific animations will be part of the multiplayer portion of the game, while some will be specific to the single-player campaign.

"Race" and "Rally" game modes are also making their way into Halo: Reach. Landmines have also been added to spice racing up a bit, and can be primed to explode tailgaters on your six.

Some new and some improved custom graphical FX filters are also discussed, accompanied by a screenshot of each.

Halo: Reach comes out exclusively on the Xbox 360 on September 14.

As someone who really enjoys making and playing custom maps, I am really looking forward to this. I was amazed what some people made in Halo 3, despite its limitations compared to pc map making.

I think Forge World has the potential to be Halo Reach's single greatest contribution to the world of gaming. When we all look back 5-10 years from now, I'm sure Forge World will stand out as a watershed moment in consol gaming.

Would love it if they picked the best fan made maps and threw them into rotation.
