A novel based on the Deus Ex franchise, tied closely to the timeline of the upcoming Eidos Montreal-developed Deus Ex: Human Revolution, is in the works from Del Rey Books, a division of Random House Publishing.

Expected to hit stores in February 2011, Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect will follow Secret Service agent Anna Kelso and Special Ops soldier Ben Saxon as they draw "uncomfortably close to the truth" about the "intricate" plans of dark and secret powers shadowing the world's cyberpunk dystopia setting.

Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect will be authored by James Swallow, who has previous worked on novels and scripts for the Doctor Who, Warhammer 40,000 and Star Trek franchises. Characters and events from the novel will also cross over into the upcoming game.

The novel's title makes specific references to the Greek Mythology-infused GDC 2010 teaser trailer for the upcoming Deus Ex title, showcasing protagonist Adam Jensen flying too closely to the sun while screaming like a little girl with a skinned knee. Deus Ex: Human Revolution ships in Q1 2011 on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
