This morning the collective Game Critic Award nominations for the best showings at E3 2010 were revealed. Leading with five nominations in multiple categories is the id Software developed, Bethesda Softworks published shooter Rage, followed by Dance Central, Disney Epic Mickey and Portal 2, each of which received four nominations a piece.

Collectively, Electronic Arts had the strongest publisher showing, nabbing fifteen nominations followed by Microsoft who received eleven nominations for its E3 lineup; mostly coming from the Harmonix-exclusive Dance Central.

In the Best Hardware category, Nintendo's 3DS was given a nod alongside both motion-control peripherals being introduced by Sony and Microsoft later this year.

Is it just me, or did Rage just seem to be blessed to be id's next title and thus worthy of praise? I'm interested in the game for sure, but I'm not seeing anything that if you look hard enough you can't find elsewhere presently beyond pretty graphics.

I also find it odd that Dance Central got as much as it did. It's a good use of Kinect (and likely Move), and is HMX backed, but I dunno if it has the same replay as Rock Band or the like. Unless it will teach white guys how to finally dance.

Most of the games that got top honors by the GCA seem to be in the "nothing new/spectacular" category (particularly Epic Mickey and Dance Central), like the GCA was paid off specifically to ignore Nintendo's entire E3 showing besides "giving a nod" to the 3DS hardware alongside the two motion peripherals, compared to which the 3DS is in a whole different league of its own.
