Retro Studios, the company behind the Metroid Prime series of first-person action-adventure games, is now working on a new Donkey Kong entry.

The game, revealed during Nintendo E3 Briefing, is a traditional side-scrolling platformer for the Wii titled "Donkey Kong Country Returns" and due this holiday.

I.....GWAAAHT?!! Whoah, Whoah, hold on a sec. First Goldeneye 007 is being re-made by a different company. Okay, I can deal with it cause I expected it. BUT THIS?! One of my favorite video game series being developed NOT by Rare?!

I'm sorry but I'm simply not gonna let another company ruin the reputation of a great side-scrolling series with incredible music. I'll have to sabotage their studio somehow. Maybe with walnuts, peanuts, pineapple smells...grape, oranges, melons, and coconut shells. AW YEAH!

It's worth noting that Rare also handed Donkey Kong 64, which was meh.

Also when's the last time Rare put out something decent?

I think all the talent left Rare years ago.

I'm not saying Rare would make a good game again, I just don't want to see this new Donkey Kong Country period. Cause I know I'll be like, "Hey! A new Donkey Kong Country...hey waitaminute! This music sucks!"

Retro did a good job with Metroid, I tend to believe they can do a good job with this too.

Rare announced Kinect Sports yesterday. Rare today is not the Rare from Nintendo days unfortunately.

Well, I'm aware it's just a trailer and all, but it looks promising, imo. Sometimes I wish I had a Wii :(

Bingo. They carried to torch of awesomeness starting with MP and if there's any dev I could expect to do a Rare game justice, they'd be it.

Your complaint isn't entirely valid. Yes it would be nice if Rare was making the game, but you must realize this is no longer possible at all. Microsoft bought Rare. Therefore Rare can no longer make any games for Nintendo.

Did you even watch the trailer?!?! The company that's making it looks like there doing a amazing job. I will also agree with other's that said it Rare games sucks now, they haven't impressed me since the N64 years. Watch the trailer before you talk out of your butt.

Saw the trailer, graphics look great, but I'm not into graphics as much as the music/gameplay. What I saw looked like fun, but not challenging gameplay. The music was also re-hashed, which isn't a bad thing, but that means they're going for nostalgia instead of a completely re-thought series.

The last time they went for a new look/feel with DK Jungle Beat everyone complained (although it was a pretty fun game)

Either people complain about sequels being too close to the original titles or hate that it's too different.

@RoboticHam - Noone is forcing you to play this game. If you really think this will ruin the memories you have from the SNES days then just ignore it.

Personally I have faith in Retro Studios and look forward to seeing how this turns out.

But Rare makes pretty bad games these days and Retro has a great track record with making three awesome Metroid games for Gamecube and Wii.

Retro Studios is Nintendo's new Rare.
