Report: iPad Launch Games Revealed via Leak

10
PadGadget did some digging through Apple's database and found references to several "HD" versions of some games, presumably set for release when the iPad is launched next week on April 3.

The games are:

  • Ammoin HD
  • Azkend HD
  • Flight Control HD
  • Grind HD
  • HD Recovery
  • Labyrinth 2 HD
  • NBA Hotshot HD
  • Numba HD
  • Plants vs. Zombie HD
  • Sparkle HD
  • Worms HD
As of this story, references to these games have been removed from the App Store web interface where they were first spotted. Though I won't be getting an iPad, the thought of iPad-sized Plants vs. Zombies and Worms is appealing.

Are these games seriously being called "HD" versions?

They are apparently being called HD, though it does seem more ironic than serious.

The iPad resolution (1024x768) is actually larger than a 720p (960x720) which is considered an HD resolution. So why not?

        Actually 720p is 1280 x 720 and most 720p displays are actually 1366 x 768.

Actually entry level plasma screens with non-square pixels run at this resolution and are sold as HD.

The 1366x768 doesn't impact games, though (via fillrate), where as the difference between 1280x720 and 1024x768 is 17%.

Have there been any details on the GPU of the iPad? I can't imagine it is that much more powerful than the 3GS, given the 10 hours per charge. 1024x768 is a lot of pixels to cover...

Yup. The thing that throws the iPad off is that it is a narrower dimension than the 16:9 than HD displays use. That said, it shares a common 720 lines of vertical height, so in that sense it falls under HD, just with some of the sides cut off.

Well, the iPad display is listed as "widescreen" on Apple.com specs page, so why not this.
