New "Lara Croft" is Isometric, Arcade-Style Game

Announced yesterday, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light by Crystal Dynamics was curiously missing "Tomb Raider" from the title. Now, we may know why. GameSpot UK got a first look at the game and it's an isometric, arcade-style action game.

From the preview:

Though the genre is something out of left field, this latest Lara Croft adventure looks to maintain much of the feeling of earlier games (tombs, booby-trap puzzles, and so on) with a framework designed around cooperative adventuring.

The entire game will apparently be played from the isometric view with a focus on high-scores and replayability. We expect to see more of the title at GDC 2010, which myself and Garnett Lee will be attending. Crystal Dynamics is also working on a second title, which could be a "Tomb Raider" game in the familiar sense.
