Xbox 360 Dashboard Update Due November 17

17
The "next wave of social entertainment" will hit Xbox 360 next Tuesday, Microsoft claims, as the company today dated the next Xbox 360 system update for November 17.

Among the additions are Facebook and Twitter integration, providing users with the option of perusing and updating the social networks from the Xbox 360 dashboard, along with support for streaming music via Last.fm. To make use of these features, however, Xbox 360 users will need to have an adult-level Xbox Live Gold membership.

The update also adds a "News and More" section and sees the Xbox Live Video Marketplace rebranded the Zune Video Marketplace, with support for "instant on" 1080p video streaming and the ability to watch a movie online alongside seven friends.

Should you desire video of the new features, well, you're in luck:

If Microsoft could stop them with a dashboard update they probably would've done it long ago.

Maybe it took them until now to figure out just how to detect the modded firmware.

Or maybe they just sit on the ban lists for a long time before pulling the trigger so as to catch all the modded boxes at once, instead of banning sooner and giving new modders a chance to develop a different kind of mod.

This is a different cookie than the console modding they have been banning during these last couple of days.

The dashboard update now is banning hdd´s and memory cards that are not Microsoft branded as they are more expensve then a regular hdd and memory card that have been modified to work on the xbox.

The ban wave that has been going on is banning people with modified DVD firmware which allows people to run games of a burned medium.

so there's no potential for piracy with modified hard drives?

You're still breaking the EULA by using those third-party HDDs and memory cards, so I have no sympathy if people get banned over that.

So people should just bend over and take it up the ass from MS and pay them outrageous money for low capacity hard drives? You're an idiot.

Besides, MS doesn't even sell a 250GB HDs, one of the advantages of hacking HD firmware is that you can install a 250GB WD hard drive into yoru xbox. I've been out of space on my ELITE for a long time now and I wouldn't mind upgrading HD but even if they start selling bigger HDs it's going to be so outragously expensive I would have to be a complete idiot to buy it.

Well, they can either bend over and take it, or break the EULA and potentially get banned. I don't see why we should feel bad for people who get banned because they break the terms of service that they agreed to.

They are not banning people with third party HDD´s and mem cards. Just disabling them.

banns are for people with modified DVD firmware.
