Xbox 360 Wireless N Adapter Out This Week
The revision adds support for the 802.11n wireless protocol which Microsoft says will offer up to "two times the range and a speed seven times faster" than the previous adapter when used on an WiFi-n network.
The adapter will also work with older 802.11a, b and g networks, and naturally supports the WPA2 security protocol--a feature added only recently to the original version.
Joystiq reports that the recommended price of the original 802.11b/g-supporting Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter will be cut from $100 down to $80 "while supplies last."

I can see why announced this officially the week of release. An extra $100 purchase for your 360 to get it wireless? Not something they want to advertise. I already saw it in stores today when picking up MW2, stealth launch.

Anyone who games seriously does so on the fastest, best connection possible. For most that is ethernet. Where not possible wireless can do the job. It's just that the 360 didn't charge everyone for something they may not need the way the PS3 does. Sure they charged too much for the add-on, but that's life when buying 1st party peripherals. The upside of their leaving it out of the console is that it's upgradable. PS3 will be stuck with it's shitty Wireless G card forever while the new 360 N class will provide better than wired speeds for many, enabling real HD streaming and very fast gaming connections.
