Major Xbox Live Update Coming August 11

17
Microsoft today announced that the next big update to the Xbox 360 dashboard will arrive on August 11.

The update will mark the debut of Live's Games on Demand service, set to offer full Xbox 360 titles for digital download.

Confirmed titles for the service include Mass Effect, BioShock, Assassin's Creed, LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Netflix party support and the Avatar Marketplace have also been squeezed into the update, while Facebook, Twitter and Last.FM integration will arrive in a future fall update alongside 1080p streaming support.

Didn't they previously announce that whatever patch the Games on Demand thing came in would change things from MS Points to real-world values? Maybe they just forgot to mention it.

The Games on Demand games will be available with real money, but everything else will still be MS points only.

This is lame. The MS Points system is the main reason I've stopped buying anything from the Marketplace. MS Points are hell for somebody on a fixed, tight budget especially because the prepaid amounts are so completely clusterfucked.

Do PSN cards go on sale?

I've gotten plenty of MS point cardss on the cheap and if I have to live with points in order for that to continute, so be it

They go on sale. Plus you can order 4000 point cards from yourfree360games.com

Exactly. I typically buy MS points for about 2/3 the normal price. And then it's easy to remember, since I just view "points" as "cents". That is, 1200 points is $12. (It's actually more like $9-10 if I've gotten some good deals on the points cards, but you get the idea.)

Yea, to me MS Points is a bit of a scam. If you don't bother to calculate or convert the points before you buy something, you could be over paying or they could over charge you for something simple. The whole thing reminds me of Don King holding everyone's money for "safe keeping" until they need it.

The idea that MS points are a scam to allow MS to charge you more than the listed value of an item is absurd.

I don't know why everyone is so down on microsoft points - I don't have a credit card, so without these things I wouldn't be abel to buy any DLC at all.
