Lifetime UK Hardware Sales Revealed

10
A chart included in European game retailer Game's latest financial papers has revealed the lifetime hardware sales data for the UK games market.

The numbers largely reflect worldwide and European trends, with the Wii in the lead at 4.9 million units sold. The Xbox 360 has been sold to 3.2 million UK gamers, while PS3 sales have totaled 1.9 million.

In the handheld market, the Nintendo DS has pushed 8.8 million units in the UK, while the PSP follows far behind at 3.2 million.

As Edge points out, the data does present one notable difference in trends: the PS3 is currently beating the Xbox 360 in European territories outside of the UK, with 2.6 million sold to the Xbox 360's 2.3 million.

I was always under the impression that the PS3 was selling better everywhere in Europe.

Sony were claiming that, but this is pretty damning evidence that they were lying like normal.

I know like 2 people with PS3s and all my friends have 360s.

I myself am a PC gamer.

My story is slightly different. I know more people with a PS3 AND a Xbox360 than I know people with just a Wii or just a ps3 or just a 360.

However, of the people that own a 360 or a PS3, those people seem to be less likely to own a Wii, out of the people *I* know.

It's expensive this time around, and people turn each Euro twice before they spend it. There ain't no big loyalty to any brand here in Europe, it's more bang for the buck kind of way here. At the time PS3 was released it was priced at 600EUR and at that time I was making 850EUR/month, that said there's people who made even less then me and I had a "practicum". My apartment and all the bills were 650EUR/month, luckily my pay wasn't the only one in the household.

Now I think it costs 400EUR if I'm not mistaken, which still isn't as cheap as the last generations of consoles on top of that, Europe is way behind with the switch from SD to HD, so I guess that also factors in why some consoles don't sell that well this time around. I bought a 360 last year when I bought a HD ready TV, just because my old one died, if it didn't I'd still use the SD TV.

That said, those are Game sales, one retailer and UK only. Europe is far more as just UK, about 51 or so countries more.
