Ringo Starr did not suck in any way, he is probably one the most underrated drummers out there mainly as he did not do any drum solos (Only one on a Beatles record, on The End on Abbey Road) He´s a great percussionist and never lost a beat when the screaming maxed out.
Ringo also dwarfed in the shadows off Lennon / Mccartney as he did just write one song (Octopus's Garden).
There are only a handful of songs where Paul or someone else steps up and plays drums. First because of Ringo being inexperienced as a studio artist and being replaced by a session player, then during the recording of the White Album he walked out and quit the band - but returned later on after his anger faded away and then on The Ballad of John and Yoko because Paul and John Lennon were just jamming alone one night and did the song.
So yeah.
