GarageGames Acquires Tribes Property Rights

Word that GarageGames was planning a web-based revival of the original Starsiege: Tribes left some confused, as the developer released a spiritual sequel last year.

Now, we have a bit more insight into the re-release, as the studio has revealed its ownership of the Tribes property and all related Starseige games. GarageGames purchased said rights from publisher Vivendi in the wake of its merger with Activision.

In a blog post, GarageGames further noted that the beloved multiplayer shooter has been updated with bug fixes and is still playable as a standalone game, but does not have updated graphics, as was previously reported.

GarageGames was formed by several veterans of original Tribes developer Dynamix after the studio closed in 2001. A total of four Tribes games were released by Vivdendi, though Dynamix was only responsible for the first two. Thanks Big Download.
