'Very Different' Team Fortress 2 Mode Coming 'Soon'

112
Team Fortress 2 developer Robin Walker has teased a new, "very different" mode will soon be added to the stylistic multiplayer shooter.

"A new Payload map is in the works, more community maps are on the way and the team will soon unveil a very different new game mode," writes The Escapist in a story on Walker and the team at Valve. Walker also revealed that while the team is primarily focusing on bolstering the game's existing classes, it does have a running list of candidates for an entirely new class.

"We've got several new class designs floating around, some of which we like a lot, but right now we're focusing on the broadening of our existing classes through the addition of the unlockables," said Walker.

Maximum Wootage! I wonder what the new mode will be, a multistage objective thing would be fun, though they could pretty much do anything.

I agree. Something with multiple objectives akin to UT2004's Onslaught or Assault or whatever it was called.. Would be fun, it would be classic in the sense that it would be a chokepoint gametype where concentrated play is at hand with large out of control melees occurring onscreen. It leaves a lot to the imagination with the design style they have. Perhaps the first objective is to hack into a gate or blow open a secret back entrance into a fortified base that the Defensive team has to well.. defend. Then after the offense does that they have to steal a launch key AND code from separate locations. Finally, take both of those to a final point near the end and launch off a missile that blows everyone to gibby goodness.

I don't know about you but that sounds fun to me. Not the most inventive scenario but you could see what geniuses like the people at Valve could do with it.

The problem is VIP is almost the same as Payload. They mentioned it would be a very different mode

i agree. unfortunately, I think Payload has ruined almost any chance of VIP ever happening :(

True, but I don't think the new class will come till after they updated each class, ya know>?

I hope it's in the next update. I loved the homage to the VIP model in the "Meet The Sniper" video.

A wip would make an interesting melee weapon. You could disarm your opponent Indiana Jones style.

payload is so not like VIP...

VIp can move anywhere they want, and the enemies were just snipers...

I liked the way Resistance 2 did multiobjectives, how each team was split up and did different things. Though I have been reading on Killzone 2 multiplayer modes, and the way they do objectives sounds cool too. Though I think whatever the new mode is, most people will still probably play CTF or Push-CP maps.
