Analyst Predicts New Zelda Wii Title in 2009

Lazard Capital Markets' analyst Colin Sebastian is going out on a limb by including a new Zelda Wii game in his list of big-name games to expect in 2009.

According to GameSpot, Sabastian listed Zelda amongst some solidified 2009 releases--such as Resident Evil 5--and other titles that he guesses will arrive next year, including StarCraft II.

While remaining tight-lipped about future sequels to its bigger franchises, Nintendo has assured fans that those projects are definitely in the works.

"We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years," said Nintendo in August.

Added Nintendo: "These games are not ready to launch in early 2009 but are being worked on by all development teams."

new zelda.. er, what? have we ever seen a zelda game announced and released in the same year? I find this impossible to believe. we are lucky to get a zelda game within 5 years of it being announced.

I found the receipt for my Wii this weekend and I'm seriously thinking about returning it. Unless this is a wind waker sequel.

If you return it does that mean you'll stop whining?

agreed. I liked it better than wind waker (although I liked the WW art style)

Agreed. I'm firmly in the "No friggin way" camp. I would expect a minimum of two years wait after the announcement.

WTF are you smoking? The longest time we've ever waited between a major Zelda release is 4 years. That was between Link to the Past (4/92) and Ocarina of Time (11/98). In fact, this is by FAR the longest. OoT and Majora's Mask were only two years apart, and Wind Waker came only a bit more than two years after that. It was 3 years and 8 months after that when we saw Twilight Princess get its first release. It would not be a far reach to call the next Zelda game 3 years after that.

I've hardly played my Wii, until the woman insisted on an extra Nunchuck and Raving Rabbids. Now we play all the time. But a true TP or MP3 sequel would be nice.....

Miyamoto actually announced they were developing one earlier this year. 2009 could be possible. I hope it's not a rush job just to appease fans after an abysmal E3 (or whatever) lineup though. Hell, this is the first time in I don't know how many years that I haven't wanted a single game around the holiday season. There's usually at the very least 1 game.
