Pirates, BioShock Film Director Taking on Second Life

Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski (pictured left) has signed on to direct a film based on a 2007 Wall Street Journal article that centers around a 53-year-old Second Life player, according to Variety.

The article focuses on Ric Hoogestraat, a married man that maintains a second wife inside the avatar-based MMO.

In the game, Hoogestraat is a successful, musclebound businessman that runs a private club. In reality, he's a chain-smoking diabetic. You get the picture.

Writer Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Frankie Howerd on Campus) has signed on to pen the screenplay.

Not new to game-related projects, Verbinski is also readying to direct the film adaptation of 2K Boston/Australia's BioShock.

And pathetic. Apparently he spent six hours a night on the computer with his internet wife, ignoring his real one.

I think you should look at the picture of his real wife before you get too settled into your opinion.
