First Post!
Good morning! I'm guessing this will be a pretty uneventful week, as we creep closer towards the holidays and end of the year. At least there's still plenty of games to keep us entertained right? I actually temporarily find myself back in 2007, as I've finally been playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Fantastic piece of gaming so far.
Every year all of us get sent various Christmas cards and packages, and one such card I received this year was from the guys at Splash Damage. I'm only mentioning this because every mention nets the Baird's Tapir Project a donation from the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars developer, and so I'm happy to help the cause.

I've repeatedly stated why Rez is my favorite game of all time ( http://www.shacknews.com/search.x?type=comments&terms=rez&cs_user=SiW73&cs_parentauthor=&s_type=all ) Let's pick this one:
it's hard to explain why what is essentially a simplistic rail shooter connects with me so deeply, but it does. I consider shooters the purest form of game anyway, but Rez goes beyond that and completely connects you to the game experience. Almost like Portal, the "real" game isn't even apparent during the first 4 levels, which could be considered training for the final story-based level.
Is it my most played game? Not by a long shot. Has it provided me with the majority of my favorite gaming memories? Hardly. Is it my favorite game ever? Yes. -

I think the game at a technical level was ok, but the multiplayer was so limited as to make it worthless.
Devs: "Hey, here's a good idea: This game is all about huge, epic space battles involving dozens of ships. Let's limit the multi to 4 players, max. Oh, and let's have no in-game browser, and instead make everyone access the game through this shitty web portal that launches the game for the players, causing them to have to exit the game every time they want to start a match."
/gun
I also like how the A-Wing somehow could carry 12 heavy bombs, making it completely unstoppable as a bomber.

Secret of Mana has the most feel-good memories of gaming childhood than any other game. I used to play that with my cousin. I was the boy, she was the girl, and we'd pretend my other cousin (her little sister) was the sprite. Great game.
Beyond that, I love a lot of PC games. Syndicate, Daggerfall. Vampires TM: Bloodlines, Quake 3 OSP, Diablo 1 and 2, and of course, WoW. The best time was when TBC was released and I leveled with friends and then ran the instances and raids. I was still really newb (and still am I suppose) but it was really fun coming together for a battle and then winning. -

I have a list in no particular order:
Zelda OOT
Zelda on the SNES
Mario Kart
Mario Kart 64
F-Zero
Super Metroid
Final Fantasy 2 and 3 (US)
Secret of Mana
Bionic Commando
Blaster Master
Doom
Quake
Castlevania 3
Ok, I have to stop now or I won't actually stop. So many more games to mention that were left out :( -

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
I know it's new, but I came by this conclusion by thinking how many times I've played a game without getting bored before finishing it entirely. Previously, I would have said Beyond Good & Evil, but I've played through and beat Uncharted many, many more times.
If I have to name a classic game, it would have to be The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. -
I can't pick one favorite, but Quake is probably the most value I ever got from a single game, simply because of the mod and mapping communities. I have at least 60 great user-made maps just for SP, not to mention all the awesome TCs like Hell in a Can, Zerstorer, Nehahra etc! Add in the MP maps & mods and there was an amazing amount of stuff that kept me playing it right up 'til a couple years ago.
Half-Life would be my second-best value, there was tons of great user-made stuff for that game too! -
