Morning Discussion
I greet the working proletariat in the toils of their day. We've got part 2 of our interview with Brad Wardell of Stardock up, focusing Demigods, Impulse and a yet unnamed game that I myself gaze longingly at, a possible successor to Master of Magic. And those rumors of Deus Ex 3 seem to be catalyzing into something more, at least magazine PC Zone seems to think so. And the Shack gets you attractive wall propaganda!

That said I thought about rolling a different class and seeing what else I might like before the release. Not sure what to try. Tried a Witch hunter, and a Magus briefly. Witchhunter felt funny, like a ranged rogue. Could be good later on though. The Magus was interesting but the hoverboard (magic carpet) was just strange. And I wasn't sure how the stationary Daemon's would work other than in the case of RvR instances or some of the PVP stuff.

Waiting for unique mobs to pop wit hthe SH is a pleasure. You get people standing around, refusing to group, waiting for a certain character to spawn so they can get first hit on them and credit for the kill. Set squid to agressive, and it is attacking the mob before lag has even allowed it to show up on your screen.

they seem to be one of the most popular classes, yeah. No class is really "zerged" though. Based on the stats I saw from the last preview weekend all the classes were within a few percentage points of each other. I imagine that it will flatten out even further once the game goes live... the support classes don't tend to be that popular among the general populace.

It seems like it, was playing dwarf today a bit in that place with the bridge between order and chaos, shaman everwhere we were outnumbered big time. Which is too bad because I was going to play a Shaman at release probably. Also, sucks there aren't female Greenskins, pissed my GF off.
As someone said up above whats with the ugly order side? Empire and the elves just look terrible. Also, was just trying out a bright wizard, it was pretty fun but Empire is screwed for the first scenario. If people didn't come from different sides Chaos would wipe the floor since they have healer/nuker/tank/DD.
Other then Shaman having problems deciding what to play and which side to play.

I'm trying to give it a chance, really. There just seems to be nothing different from WoW. Granted I'm only level 5 and I'm just getting new talents and stuff, but it really just feels like WoW with less pretty graphics. I haven't been to a city yet and I'm hoping that if I make it that far it might add to the scale of the game since right now it just feels like I'm stuck in this tiny area with not much to do.
I'm playing as a Witch Elf and I think I should have chosen Sorceress or something, I've pretty much always played a melee character in any of the RPGs I've played and I think it's starting to wear thin on me.
Maybe I'll switch it up tonight... I really doubt I'll play this out of beta though.-

I did some RvR quest that I totally didn't understand how it was working and didn't really find fun at all. I was playing against people that were like 7 levels higher than me, had no clear objective, and it just felt like a battleground in WoW that I earned XP in.
Clearly I'm missing the hook, I've never played a Warhammer game, and I've done pretty much zero reading about the game, just happened to remember that I had a fileplanet subscription through Comcast and that would get me in the beta.-
scenarios, what you queue up for are like battlegrounds in WoW. RvR in the orange areas on your map is different. you have to sit on the control points until youve fought all the other side off and you gaurd it for a while. RvR sucks when you are lower level because you get stomped, hard. they try to even things out with the bolster buff but since people, 7 levels ahead of you have the better gear and skills they will still own you

this game has me SOLD!
i knew that Mythic puts out quality and i played DAoC for almost 2 years. playing WAR last night was some of the most excitement i have had in a long time for an MMO. dont look at DAoC2.0 as a bad thing, it's like they took that game, fed it pork fat, pumped in steroids, and gave it the largest cock your mother every sucked.
some of the things i already like after playing only 4 hours.
* i think the achievement stuff is mimicked after XBL/LotRO, and i like that
* i love the RvR and getting XP and RP for doing PvP again - it's like they want to reward you for killing people! huge plus for me!
* the public quest shit is awesome and how it deals with loot
* the depth on how you can customize your char is excellent IE: skills, masterys, tomes, relics...
* the map showing you at least the general AREA where stuff is for your quests. i hated getting lost all the time looking for some mob.
* the tome is something straight out of LotRO, but who cares because that thing was awesome
all in all, i think i am in love and hope there will be a strong Shack presence in the coming RvR wars. because i can promise you this, the fondest memories i have of DAoC was waging war and watching 200+ players duke it out on the field. it is quite the rush! -

Started with a Black Orc and liked it.
Trying out a Sorc now.....
Melts the hell out of things but I dont know if its lag or buggy but it needs some heavy work. Trying to time spells with cooldowns is complete guesswork because even though it seems to show that timers are up I get spammed with "Ability not Ready" or "Spell not Ready".
The biggest pain in the ass bug for me right now is the "Not Targetable" bug......its especially horendous in PQ. This one *needs* to get sorted out quicker rather than later as it is not only super annoying but can break a PQ until the mob resets itself (and in PQs there are so many people it can take a damn long time for it to reset itself). -

Is there anywhere in the UI that shows "target of target"? It makes healing annoying to have to have health bars above people's heads and heal based on who is getting hit instead of just targetting the "boss" of a public quest and healing who he is attacking. Guess I'm just used to healing based on "assisting" the opponent.

i hope mythic does the complete opposite of this :( mods are great because there's no way one UI is going to suit every single player in all classes, and an active mod scene lets the community figure out what works the best. if i had to raid heal using the built-in WoW raid interface we'd probably wipe on every trash mob

I having a bit of difficulty with my bindings and control scheme I use. I like to hold down right mouse button in combat so I can strafe and stuff (same way I play wow) but in WAR while I'm holding down that button you can't use other spells/attacks that are bound to other mouse buttons, like middle mouse button and such. You have to let go off the right mouse button to use the other mouse binds thus removing you ability to strafe :( I guess I'm nit picking but I'm so used to playing that way.

I've only tried Engi once, but there's no cooldown at all. You don't even have to destroy your old one first. As soon as the second is up, the first just goes away.
It would be interesting if they added a cooldown to when it was destroyed. So you could build a new one instantly if you had one up, but you had a 1 minute window for the 'shock' of someone destroying your gun to wear off. ;)

Really? Damn, in one Scenario I played as Order the Chosen was the last dude standing. He took an incredible amount of beating, it seemed.
Hmm, maybe he was shielded by something, 'cuz later he went down faster.
I need to read up on all the abilities. The whole damage splitting and shielding and taunting and back-stabbing stuff is way more positional than WoW, I think.

As a newbie to MMORPG's it feels a bit overwhelming though i expect i'd get that from any MMO. The help system sucks as it doesn't cover a lot of things but i guess they think it's mostly MMO veterans playing the beta. I signed up mostly to play with Shackers but i guess the guild is full and there was like no one on the chat channel so that made me a sad panda.

I know, I know, I can't help it. I LOVE this game. I love that it's like a huge WoW expansion. I don't care if it rips off a lot from the best. I got sick of WoW, but WAR is a nice breath of fresh air.
I'm happiest that they have a great UI scale, as I'm legally blind and most MMO are hard to see. So yeah, I've only spent an hour into the game so far and already am hooked.
After LOTRO and Age of Conan, I'm ready for a good, addictive MMO for once. -
