Morning Discussion

Good morning Shackers, get your morning tea and crumpets yet? Microsoft apparently wasn't showing all their cards at E3, with the announcement that Games for Windows Live will be fully free. Why? Check out our interview with Microsoft. And Community Games are coming to the 360, we've got pricing details and more here.

Gametap announced yesterday that they're adding THQ games to the service so if you're like me and haven't gotten your Company of Heroes fix then there you go. Plus, if you haven't picked up a Classic Controller for the Wii, today may be your last legal day. But on a more positive note, we have air guitars and prize winners!

I have only clicked on one spoiler because someone said something in a thread about chicks (pertaining to that drooping saggy shit Maggie Gyllenhal). Who would have guessed the person (Tommy Toolbag or whatever his name is) would put a spoiler and not put any sort of warning in the thread. It ruined a part of the movie for me (if it's true) but it's a part that I am glad happens and will clap so hard when it does (if it's true). (No more parenthesis)

Yeah that's what I was afraid would happen. Even though the Shack's pretty good about spoiler tags I figured there'd be at least one jackass who'd forget or just not bother to do it. But seriously, get to your nearest theatre and see it as soon as you're able,

well it was spoiler tagged but it was the only thing he wrote. No warning like 'TDK SPOILER'. A lot of people clicked it before it got nuked too. It was probably an honest mistake but wtf.

This is bad news, as I've pretty much given up on most modern movies thanks to being dissapointed so very often. If the Dark Knight is as good as everyone says it is.....I may have to just pack it in and accept the fact that nothing will ever top it.

They had "cell phone nazis" running all over the theater before our movie started, and there were still 3 cell phone's with horribly loud rap music as their ringtones that rang throughout the movie. One of them rang twice, as somehow the idiot who owned it didn't think to put it on vibrate after the first time. Also you're right, I saw at least 10 people in front of me texting (or something) on their phone repeatedly throughout the movie. What could they be saying? "Holy shit, the JOKER is in this movie. I'm still sitting in the theater. Ok I'm still sitting."

We had two babies start crying, two girls cellphones go off (fortunately they actually LEFT THE THEATER to talk), and some disabled guy who had to have the mucus in his throat sucked every 10-15 minutes in my theater. Reading spoiler threads has revealed I missed quite a bit of the subtle stuff in the movie due to these distractions.. :/

Hope you don't mind me asking, but...

The mucus sucker. Did it royally piss you off or were you all like, "Damn, man, at least he's able to get out to see a movie."

I ask because when I take my son to a movie, we're the mucus suckers with the portable suction pump. We went to see Kung Fu Panda last Sunday because I figured over a month after release, the place would be empty.

It was until 5 minutes after the trailers started rolling when 20 other people showed up.

I'm always curious as to what others think when they hear the pump running, but I of course do not have enough gumption to turn around and ask.

I've only been in a theater with one once, and while of course it's a little distracting, I always figure I can deal with a slightly annoying sound during a movie to allow a disabled person to get out and see a movie. It's not a big deal, they can't help it.

                July 23, 2008 10:51 AM

The throat sucking was the first distraction I've experienced at a theater that didn't piss me off. It took me a second to figure out what was going on, but after that I just did what I could to ignore it.

With babies, toddlers (especially in PG-13/R movies after 9pm), cellphones, and discussions it's a matter of the offending individuals neglecting their chosen responsibilities and being inconsiderate to those around them. In this case, it was the parents trying to give this kid a sense of normality. No one wants or choses to be in the position these parents were, but it happened to them and they deal with on a continuous basis. The best I can do is respect them in that situation and deal with a little extra noise.

I always feel like warning the people around me that its going to make some noise. It's tough to breach that social wall, though.

To my credit, I do try to wait until really loud scenes if at all possible. :)

                  Thanks for the feedback.

That's a small distraction, which I don't think most level headed folks would mind. I mean it's not like it's done on purpose, and the guy SHOULD be allowed to enjoy a movie or two right?

However it's the stupid shit like babies, people talking loudly, morons laughing during serious parts of movies.....stuff that wouldn't even do if you were watching a DVD with a friend but it's okay in theatre for some reason.

It's like some people forget this is a public place and you need to respect others.

None of the Spiderman movies can claim this (Spiderman 2 had a big monday, but it was the 5th of July, so I think people were on break still. It's July 6th numbers were way down.)

Well, the guy whose birthday it was is an actor that does a lot of game voice work and he's a total comic book nut and game player. So, after the beer was flowing there was many a drunken debate about the merits of various hot comic book females, etc. Also heard this tid bit that made me laugh heartily:

          http://www.shacknews.com/laryn.x?id=17498213#itemanchor_17498213

So, yeah it was a Shack get together without Shackers. It was at a bar and there was no Rock Band, but there was a retro console with Pole Position, Galaga, Xevious and Pac Man though. And a hot half Asian waitress which I could get a decent pic of because my cell phone camera doesn't have a flash. The birthday boy knew the manager so we basically got the run of the place and drank until 4:00 AM. Had a great time, but I am hurting today. Oh, and to bring it back on topic I was told if I didn't go see TDK I wasn't a real man so I am going to go today if I can to protect my manhood.
