Morning Discussion
So how about those leaks? It's almost like a better E3, no? Speaking of things that have been bottled up, the Spore Creature Creator demo is out, with the full release coming today for $10. Think we'll see much connectivity between the PC and DS versions of the full game? And more nice news in the form of the TeamFortress 2 PC Pyro update
coming this Thursday along with two user made maps. I see Valve, how you resort to slave labor. We're watching you. Watching you till you produce a new version of The Rock.

Dear EA: please to be putting Spore and/or the creature creator on Steam.
I know you won't, though, because you're a bunch of dicks.-

I've mentioned this before... I got Hellgate: London from the EA downloader service. However after a harddrive crash I don't have a copy of the game anymore and am not allowed to download another copy through EA.
Basically I paid fullprice for a downloadable game, and now if I want to play it I need to download a pirated copy (and can then use my proper login details). Ridiculous, and I'll never use it again, how they can make decisions on things like this when Steam is out there amazes me-

I just don't expect Steam to survive forever. I just consider it a bad investment buying something to which my use rights may be revoked someday.
If I can, I'll buy physical media, but if Steam is the only option I'll still buy it.
I not just concerned about Steam, but also games that use online activation. What happens when 2k no longer wants to support the online activation server for Bioshock? Am I suppose to go looking for CD cracks?
I don't trust companies. Especially don't trust them to give a fuck about their customers when they are going out of business. -
I'm sure Valve wouldn't fuck over their customers, but if Valve is going out of business (which is what we're talking about here), they aren't going to have much of a choice. If a bank is liquidating their assets, they're going to have a hard time inking contracts with every single one of their game vendors so that their users can continue playing the games. It says right in the Steam EULA that they are under no obligation whatsoever to make it so you can play Steam games after Steam dies.

I know what you mean, and generally I go the same way (especially with movies), but I trust Valve more than anyone else. Also: At some point any distribution medium fails. I can't play any of my old DOS games without a bit a work (I don't even have a floppy drive anymore). A large portion of current games will probably fail to play at some point without cracks for the anti-piracy checks.
I don't think there's a perfect distribution medium yet. Steam is reliable, fast, and cheap. I'll go with it for now.
