Next PSP Firmware Update Brings Google to XMB

5
Sony Computer Entertainment revealed that a forthcoming PSP firmware update will add a Google search function to the handheld's XMB operating system, the company announced on the PlayStation.Blog.

The new firmware update, which will bring the PSP up to version 4.00, adds the new Google-powered Internet Search icon under the Network icon in the XMB interface. The feature keeps track of up to 20 of a user's previous searches.

The update also adds the ability to change viewing speed during the playback of videos stored on a Memory Stick Duo loaded on the PSP with a simple press of up or down on the directional pad.

No official launch date for the new firmware has been announced, with SCE only stating that the update will be available "soon."

I really wish the PSP and PS3 team would talk to each other sometimes... Why are there so many obvious features in one but not the other?

Agreed. I think this is a good move. Still... I'm not a big fan of the web-browser that is on the psp. I know its a hand-held but would like some changes.

Not complaining about the feature, just that it would make sense to develop all these things in parallel for both their platforms, maybe even for the XBR TVs that have the XMB.

The most obvious change needs to be memory. They need to change it so the browser caches data on the stick. 2MB of memory is way too little in today's world of Flash, AJAX, etc.

Yeah, it's barely usable. Even though they limit you to three tabs you still have to close one of them due to memory in many situations.

The thing is insanely fucking SLOOOOW at downloading and/or rendering pages, as well, which I don't understand.

            Probably memory limitations again.
