Morning Discussion

Howdy folks, let's get down to things. The big mchuge news from yesterday was actually seeing Duke Nukem Forever in action. I don't really think it's enough material to draw any serious sort of judgement, but it certainly didn't look bad and I'm sure we'll all be glad to see more. And speaking of delays, looks like no GTA4 DLC on the 360 until Q1 of fiscal year 2009. I wonder if that affects their $50 million USD investment?

Also interesting was this prediction by Forbes that the iPhone 'Could kill the DS'. I'm not sure anyone else really sees that as a realistic expectation, however the root idea is very interesting. If you look at the recent consoles, Dreamcast, Xbox 1, PSP and Nintendo DS have all had some sort of homebrew platform, yet often requiring some quasi-legal hassle to access. The iPhone's lack of dedicated controls eliminates it as a "DS killer", but with the available SDK and forthcoming iPhone update on Monday it will offer legal "homebrew" access to a powerful and increasingly ubiquitous platform. Could iPhone be the third platform as the Wii is the alternative in home consoles?
