I'm going to said that Osgood isn't that great of a goalie. The fact the Wing play EXCELLENT defense/trap when they are up and the fact the pens don't have many shots.

You don't need to be great when you see less than 20 shots a game.

You are saying that a goalie that has already won two Stanley Cups and possibly on the verge of bringing home a third, has won 350+ games (plus nearly 60 more in the playoffs), and has three shutouts in this postseason isn't "that great of a goalie". Ok.

he's young, he'll get the whininess checked out of him over the years. I don't really agree with the people saying he's a Lemieux, but he's got skills. I think the rest will come with more playing time.

        • reply
          June 2, 2008 7:28 PM

Malkin is closer to Lemieux in terms of his skill set along with his sheer size. Crosby is more akin to Gretzky (minus the goal scoring ability of his youth) or a slightly better all-round game of an Adam Oates; plus the fact that I think he'll learn to play defense. Maybe he's like Yzerman? He has alot of growing up to do, but it is in his reach if he commits to a total team game.

Pens are the 1st team he's actually performed for in the post-season. He was a 40-goal man for the Sens, and consistently stunk it up during the playoffs. I think he had but one decent post-season for the Sens. I didn't follow him in Atl., but I think there's a reason he's in Pittsburgh now.

That said, he is AMAZING this playoffs, and still really like the fact he's a fucking bull on the puck. I remember watching him for the Senators, stickhandling with one hand on the stick, the other arm holding off a defender as he circled the net. So hard to move off the puck.

This has been one hell of a game. Either team win or lose, they both deserve serious props. Both goalies as well have been both exceptional and lucky tonight in overtime. Hell, I've almost drank a full six pack watching overtime alone. :)

While I agree with the first reply about this being pointless, I have to ask why they were so bullshit. I mean, I'm not very into hockey but it sounds like the rules state you can't stop a goalie from doing his job. If you run straight into the fucking goalie on your own accord I don't see how it could NOT be a penalty.

            • reply
              June 2, 2008 10:05 PM

and while I think I only got to see a single replay of it, the action resulting in a penalty called on a Pittsburgh player was FAR less game-affecting. Don't remenber if it was interference or hooking or what now, but I think a player's stick crossed on the other side of an opposing player's body.

They have a ton more shots on goal but they also seem to have a ton of shots that just go straight at the goalie. It seems Pittsburgh's shots tended to be closer in, maybe also since they didn't have the same kind of puck control Detroit did at times.

This logic is going nowhere. YOU can't be proud of your team after that game can you? They lost to the team you just described. They out-shot the other team by like 50% and got fewer goals. They got three consecutive goals in regulation, two within 3 minutes of each other, and couldn't net a single one in three periods of overtime even during a power play.

              and on and on

Seriously though. The Pens are far and away the underdogs here, but crazier shit has happened in the world of hockey. Remember the Oilers narrowly escaping an empty net goal and then coming back in the last 20 seconds to tie the game to force an overtime and subsequent win? Yeah, kind of like that, but with the Pens and one Mr. Stanley.
