Saints Row 2 Delayed
Reuters is reporting that Volition's Saints Row 2 (PS3, X360) has been delayed. Originally scheduled for an August 26 release, the open-world action game sequel is now expected October 14. The delay can be attributed to "product quality and marketing considerations", with THQ executive Bob Aniello noting "Product quality is a huge driver of a game's success and this move allows us to polish the game. The game is done, it's about polish."

Just wondering as I never played Saints 1.
What does this franchise offer that Grand Theft Auto doesn't?-
The most important thing it offers is MORE. Not that it is a bigger game, but that it is another quality GTA-like game with a well made city and good missions and lots of fun to be had (unlike most other GTA-clones) which you can have more fun with once you are done with GTA4.
I don't really know why anyone has a go at SR for copying GTA, either. The crime-in-a-city genre is still new, I suppose, so we notice each new game. Imagine, though, if the same criteria for originality were applied to shooters? People would bitch about every single FPS being a copy of Wolfenstein or something. Fuck that shit. Saints Row is an excellent game in a genre that is far from saturated, where you can wait years between quality games. Don't miss out on it just because it copied GTA rather than copying some more established formula that is so copied people don't even notice anymore when it is copied.

Well, to be fair, FPS games were called Doom clones for years before people finally started adopting First-Person Shooter as the genre.
... the other problem is we just don't have a good name for the genre. 'GTA-style game' rolls off the tongue a lot easier than 'Open-world crime simulator' or 'sandbox city shooter' or anything else.

It's a great game that improved on many things from pre-GTA4 GTA games. It had a GPS, as was said above, but it was better that in GTA4. it had a better map, too, which allowed you to filter stuff for stuff you were looking for. It had realtime shadows from headlights as well, which even GTA4 doesn't have.
My favorite part were the side missions where you had drive people in a car as they did all kinds of kicky stuff in the back seat with a prostitute while avoiding the paparazzi.
Tone-wise, it was a bit all over the place, but it was a enjoyable game for sure.
