Morning Discussion
May your Thursday be better than every Thursday that came before it. So you remember Pandemic, right? Mercenaries, Battlefront and more? They announced their newest title, which seems to be a Lord of the Rings game not straying too far from their pedigree. And in phrases I never expected to type, Stride gum is my new hero, as they throw their support behind the movement for Uwe Boll to quit making movies. Humanitarians they are.

It's too bad their open beta client is nowhere the stability of the closed beta client. I was in open, then got a closed invite and it's literally night and day.
I can't say much due to the NDA, but I was going to cancel my pre-order after playing the open as well, but then I changed my mind after closed was much better.
Unfortunately people in the open beta will think that's close to what the release will be like.-

If that is true, it's a strange thing to do to deliberately let 10s of thousands of people play on that unstable version. I personally have no issues other than the client crashing everytime i shut it down, but I also don't really believe there will be a miracle come release fixing all the issues other people have.

I thought that was confirmed to be bullshit. http://www.shacknews.com/laryn.x?id=16902857

If you want to get into semantics sure, but if you read the full interview, he's saying that they were attempting to put out the "best", and i'd imagine its what they're shipping with.
Hell I don't even have any complaints about the client other than the god damned hitching on random loads. It's so annoying, and apparently just as present in closed beta too; from the looks of it the closed client just doesn't have the weird performance issues some people are getting on random systems

I'm in both Closed and Open Beta. Both have issues.
I played for about 2 or 3 hours last night on the Open Beta. It seemed to run OK while I was in the main city, but as soon as I went to White Sands Isle or Underhalls it was running worse than a powerpoint presentation. Normally loading new zones takes between 20 to 60 seconds. At one point though I zoned from Underhalls back to the main city area and it literally took 10 minutes of sitting at the loading screen. Apparently it was some sort of memory leak because the game crashed a few minutes later with some message about being out of memory.
System specs: AMD X2 4400+, 2g RAM, GeForce 7800GTX 256MB.
I really do want to like AoC. The gameplay seems good from what I've seen so far, but I don't have the patience for the problems.-
Yup, I love the combat, and reading even more about some of the PVP has me really excited. But It's so obvious this is being rushed now, and I don't think they're going to fix things in time. And it takes one horribly buggy launch (especially performance wise) to completely turn everyone off of your game ala vanguard. They could improve vanguard in every possible way and make it the most amazing game ever.. and nobody would play it because of all the history
