Morning Discussion
Whats up Shackers? The middle of the week seems to be treating you well, did you lose a few pounds? Looking good. GDC is ticking away, and so plenty of interesting news coming in such as the big announcement of the PC Gaming Alliance, and actual impressions of Too Human. And failing all other forms of amusement, you could make a flip-book of Mario Kart Wii screenshots.

The 80GB has PS2 compatibility, and will likely run the majority of the most popular PS2 games without trouble. None of my games have given me trouble yet.
If you're concerned about whether your games are concerned, just check http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus
Go for at least the 80GB, man. The 60GB is dead.

these replies make me second guess buying a ps3....
none of these games appeal to me...i just want a blu-ray player...but i want to play games too...my xbox 360 diskdrive crapped out on me and MS refuses to fix it for me so fuck buying another 360 (even tho imo its the superior system)
maybe i just need to be talked out of this...-

Metal Gear and God of War are system sellers...
I'm still not sure why they didn't put God of War 2 on the PS3. They could've delayed the game a year to get the graphics updated and cleared up any Cell issues, then they could've released it for ps3 and maybe even still release a dumbed down ps2 version. -

But both titles have zero appeal to anyone that is outside of the Sony fanboy camp.
Gears of War was incredibly successful because the 360 was primarily about shifting Xbox and PC users to the 360. Epic had a lot of clout with PC gamers, and the xbox fanboys will buy anything that looks cool. I bought a 360 to play gears of war, and I've enjoyed every minute that I game on it (when I'm not already gaming on my PC).
R&C has zero appeal to me, since I've moved away from platformers - even Mario Galaxy wore my patience with it's repetitiveness. And to be honest I'm pretty in the dark about Uncharted, but from what I saw of videos, screenshots, and previews - it didn't look that enjoyable.
But boy, when God of War 3 rolls out (xmas maybe?), I'll be picking up a PS3 likely. -

I plan on buying one primarily for a blu-ray player in the next month or so, and there really aren't any games except maybe Uncharted that I'm interested in at the moment. LittleBigPlanet looks like it will be pretty awesome though, and I know that the Ico/SotC guys have announced they're working on another title. Also there's always the inevitable God of War 3.

Until the good 2.0 players come out, the PS3 will probably see a slight sales bump because of BR. But, as I've seen a ton of "I'm selling my Wii posts" the PS3 needs good games coming out consistently, and good exclusives, else I think in a few months we'll be seeing lots of "I'm selling my PS3" posts.

these are the 2 I got when i got my ps3 last sunday. I blew through uncharted that day.. LOVED it. R&C is next. Other than that, I'm a bit perplexed what to get next since I'm gonna get my multiplatform games for 360 (live etc)...the only other exclusive im mildly interested in is Resistance. am I missing anything else?

Well then you don't frequent slickdeals enough. You have to sign up for a Sony Credit Card (actually chase card "through" sony), but then you can buy a ps3 at any authorized dealer and get $100 credit nearly immediately. Plus if you do it through amazon, you can manipulate the gold box picks to get another $20 off. Thus a ps3 for $280!
I am waiting for approval on the CC, and then the ps3 is mine =). I sold off my HD-DVD player for a small profit, so in the end I am currently going to pay nothing =).

$600? If PS2 compatibility isn't an issue, the 40GB goes for $400 and buying it at Target nets you a $40 gift card which you can then use to buy a game (Motorstorm is $40 this week, as is Warhawk).
So you're looking at $400 for a PS3 and a game. $420 if you buy a game not on sale.
I bought my PS3 on Sunday an am enjoying it so far. Uncharted and Motorstorm were my first purchases, and I'm happy with both (little disappointed at the loading in Motorstorm, have to admit). Some of my enjoyment of the PS3 is derived from the fact that I have a PSP that works great with it, and I've already replaced the 40GB drive with a 250GB.
Since the PSP lets me view content wirelessly through the PS3, I'm now finally setting up a media server in order to have access to movies/music/TV shows anywhere I have a net connection.
All of this geeking out with the PS3 is currently keeping my attention away from the fact that there aren't a lot of games out for it that I dearly crave, but the 360 started the same way for me. The library will get there.
