Propaganda Team-kills Turok Team-kill Achievement

A controversial achievement award earned by killing a teammate in online play will now be removed from Propaganda Games' upcoming action title Turok, according to Wired.

The "Grab Bag" achievement, which involves killing "at least 1 creature, 1 enemy, 1 teammate, and yourself in the same round of a public match," will now be changed to include only enemy targets and suicide by a mandatory release-day patch.

Gamers were shocked last November when the award was announced, with many protesting a mechanic that would have rewarded players for unsportsmanlike play. Propaganda eventually responded to the outcry, pledging to remove the achievement if it became a problem.

Turok will ship to stores February 5, on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a PC port following later this year.

See, achievements have become retarded. All achievements should be things you get naturally over the course of regular gameplay, not some dumbass treasure hunt or team-killing horsecrap like this.

absolutely, getting tired of watching me team in any MP game, just go treasure hunting for achievements.

I think that treasure hunting-esque Achievements are fun, just not in multiplayer games. Players' focus should be on completing their team's objectives, not on going after some esoteric Achievement.

Achievements naturally earned over the course of a game are kind of lame. Ooh, I got an Achievement for finishing Level 1! Of course you did; so did I, so did everyone else. I like Achievements that reward players for completing a real challenge. For example, the HL2: Episode One "One Free Bullet" Achievement which is earned by going through the entire game using only one bullet. That's a cool Achievement.

I understand why games have Achievements that are given to absolutely everyone that plays ("Yay now I finished Level 2!") but Achievements that provide a challenge are great because they extend replay value. Again, though, this kind of thing has no place in multiplayer gaming.

Exactly. I don't mind Achievements that are given to everyone (things such as beating a certain level, killing a certain boss, etc) but the Achievements that present a challenge are the ones I really enjoy.

My sentiments exactly. If they removed all MP achievements, aside from maybe getting to certain ranks in games like Halo and Vegas I'd be happy. The single player "treasure hunting" achievements are why I enjoy them in the first place though. Games like Crackdown and Dead Rising did this perfectly with achievements like "juggle a car for 30 seconds with rockets" or "bowl over 10 zombies" or whatever.

I love the idea of achievements for Mass Effect, they were on to something there.

      I have to disagree.
If you aquire something during regular play, where is the reward in that achievement ?
Have a look at the TF2 achievements - they are achieved by over-regular playtime. The achievements in Portal - some are fun and fit into the gameplay, others are a 30,000ft drop (...) .

Player will judge themselve if their interest of this particular achievement is worth turning a PKer, even if just for once. If would not kill a teammate on purpose just for one stupid badge in a game.

I don't know, I think achievements in general are lame. I just really hate the stupid treasure-hunting ones.

I believe the only game that benefits from achievements is Dead Rising. I found they were really creative and added to the challenge of the game. Wasn't one of them called "Frank the pimp", you had to rescue 8 chicks at a time. Damn that's tough.

Achievements should be for excellent work while trying to complete or play the game. Such examples would be not dying in a multiplayer match while achieving so many kills. Or having a good kill to death ratio. High scores on a level, speed runs, etc are also fine examples.
