Ubisoft Reveals Red Steel 2 Coming in 2008

8
A sequel to Ubisoft Paris' Wii launch title Red Steel will be coming some time next year, according to the latest issue of the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine as reported by Gaming Target.

Currently in development, the game has yet to be officially named. The title will supposedly boast "better controls, better AI, better multiplayer and online play," according to the magazine. Critics panned the first game for its awkward use of the Wii's motion sensitive controller, among other flaws.

Many already speculated a sequel was in the works after Official Nintendo Magazine teased its current preview of the game in a prior issue with hints pointing to a continuation of the Red Steel series. Ubisoft has yet to release an official announcement of the title.

Their heart was in the right place for the first game but as a FPS gamer I just could play that damn thing. The first FPS that felt right was Metroid. If they can get the storyline solid like the first one with some workable controls I'll give the series a second change. BUT that's a big "if."

I think if it wasn't a launch game it might have turned out better. Thats one of the reasons why I am thinking that the sequel might be good.

Yeah the whole presentation (menus, etc.) plus the fact that they shoehorned the Unreal engine onto the Wii just screams "oh shit hurry up to get this thing out for the launch" to me.

That said I got it for $8 the other week at Circuit City. I think it was a good investment.

I kept feeling like I was struggling to do anything. Any deaths I had were not because I couldn't hit someone, but probably because I couldn't quite turn around fast enough or I misjudged how the sensitivity of the remote.

When I start dying in a game due a control method, I get frustrated and stop playing. Thats why I never finished the challenges in TS2 for example. Give me a keyboard and mouse and suddenly it's easy.

I haven't played it yet, but Metroid seems far more catered to the remote. The game doesn't just throw people at you and say "haha you dont turn fast enough". Sometimes I think console shooters forget this, and just think you have lighting accuracy without a mouse.

Now that Metroid Prime 3 and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 have pulled off Wii FPS control, there isn't really an excuse for other developers not to, particularly considering how wildly different and yet successful both of those games are.

Remo, why do you think MOH:H2 gets no love or even attention here on the shack? All the reviews make it sound like a great FPS game, plus it's got online multiplayer, yet no one ever talks about it here.

No one has it? I don't know, I don't personally have it because I want less-traditional games for my Wii. I don't really need a war shooter, I have enough on the PC.

because MOH is so 4 years ago.

If I had a choice between playing a FPS on a Wii, 360, PS3, or PC - I'm going with the PC.

          If I had a choice between a Wii and a 360/PS3, I'm going with the 360.

The wii is horrible for online MP which most FPS games will likely have, except Prime, and I'm one of the few that hated the controls and for the most part found the game uninspiring and boring.

I understand and appreciate your first "If" regarding playing FPS on a PC.

Your second IF doesn't really stay on topic and your last sentence is pretty wacko.

          Probably a combination of a, b, and c.

          a) it's a wii game, this is the 360shack

          b) it's a WW2 MOH game. WW2 is a tired premise and I'm not sure if even the MOH guys can keep all the various MOH series straight. That said, you can throw both of those tired concepts in and it doesnt matter because the game really is pretty damn fun.

          c) it doesn't get much coverage in general. IGN went crazy over it if you read their review which didnt get much front page attention or anything.

I played it a few times not (don't own it myself at the moment) and think it's great. very, very, fun.

EA watered Medal of Honor down. It's the second MOH game to hit the Wii and the first one, which was shovelware was an atrocity.

Didn't Retro say they spent almost all their time constantly tweaking the controls? I think that gives everyone an excuse. It's probably a tough thing to pull off.

the wii is for casual gamers, not fps lovers. also beside nintendo nobody likes to code for the wii, every company puts their talented people on the 360 and ps3.

I enjoyed this game all the way through, even with it's quirky sword control scheme. The 2nd one should be better than the 1st since there's a lot of things they overlooked that could have made it a more enjoyable experience

I just beat the first one. Got it priced-match for 7.99 and loved every minute of it. Sure, it had some terrible AI and controls but it was fun and that counts. If I paid full price for it, I'm sure my opinion would be the exact opposite.
