Morning Discussion

Hey there, have a good Christmas? Mine was pretty much all I could ask for and then some. How about you? I imagine we have plenty of people with new games and systems, so maybe we should have a coordination thread to unite newly gifted gamers to others?

Pretty much the only news to note is that keen Steam sale, so if you didn't get what you were looking for then maybe that will do the trick. Or? Or you could use your last chance make an entry to our holiday contest and take a shot at winning a 360 Elite, or at least a game for trying.

In this thread, we find matches for our new games and systems. Don't forget to use http://www.gamewith.us for posterity... but of course you need something to tell you to look there, right?

its like the board game but 100000x better. I consistently own my wife at it, but that's what happens when you work at Hollywood Video for a couple years and see pretty much every movie ever made.

We did guys vs. girls a few years ago and the guys DESTROYED the girls. It was hilarious. There were probably 4 or 5 couples there. I'd kill my wife at this game also. She never remembers movies. But the demo was fun and the board game was a lot of fun too.

see my writeup in reply to Deathlove's post below; its a really fun game, especially since you have to "Buzz In" for some questions using the bigass button on the end of the remote thing.

I'm thinking about getting that with some of my Duplicate Gift Trade-In, but I don't know how it'll do just two-players; usually we do it up with four at my mom's house and that shit gets mad crazy yo.

the xbox version is fun with just two people; here's a rundown:

          1) questions are presented in blocks of ~5 questions in each block. A block will all be one type of question, like anagrams, or the 'screening room', where you watch a clip and answer questions about it.

          2) You can select a short game or a long game. Short is I think 3 blocks of questions per round for 3 rounds plus the Final cut, and long is 5 or 6 blocks of questions for 3 rounds + Final Cut.

          3) Instead of being board-based where you have to progress to win, its points based, where you get more points for answering a question quickly. After the first round, you get points deducted if you answer a question incorrectly.

          4) After each round the game randomly gives bonuses, Mario Party style. Ones we saw last night were first correct answer, last correct answer, highest percentage correct, 3 in a row, entire block correct, etc.

          5) the final cut consists of a clip from a movie, then 4 questions. You don't get points deducted for getting questions wrong, but every consecutive correct answer gets you a score multiplier (1x, 2x, 5x, 10x). This makes it possible for someone in last place to shoot to first place in the Final Cut.

          6) The game uses the hard drive to keep track of what questions have been asked already so it doesn't repeat questions until you've already seen everything in the game.

All in all, we were having a blast with it; possibly one of the best Christmas presents I received this year.

Yeah, the chance of duplication thing is what really gets me going. The Mario Party points are cool, too, didn't know about that. It is XBL-compatible, right? Shack SceneIt could be tits.

I don't really know...lemme check wikipedia or something...

doesn't look like you can play over XBL, but they will have question packs to download, so depending on when they release those its possible that you could never see a repeated question. Ever.

aaaand after checking the xbox site it says it currently doesn't support downloadable content, either :-\ maybe the reviews I read for my facts above were wishful thinking? I dunno

I haven't played for a bit, but I am pretty sure there is an option in the in-game menu for DLC. I would guess they are at least planning to release more questions, if the game sells well enough.

Based off of this post, I picked it up today. Fun game, great one to get if the SO is all "eww, playing a console" type of person. Fun, lots of different categories of questions, and the random awarding of points keeps it interesting in a close game. IF they add in DL content, or release later games that'll use the Big Button controller, then it'll definitely shoot into the must have category.
