Morning Discussion

Good news everyone, in terms of the week, it's time for the boss battle. Wouldn't that be awesome if you did actually have a boss battle and got to leave early? I'll make sure to have that happen if I'm ever king of the world. So did you catch the Ghostbusters news? I'm scared to get excited for a licensed game, but this, this I could be pretty alright with.

Don't forget to check out the latest contest. It's for the photoshoppers in the house, but if you've got ideas for other contests or promotions around here then drop me a line.

I can't decide of two GTs would be insanely awesome or a total waste.

It's always been better to upgrade to the best card instead of SLI in the past.

Problem is, the 8800GTS/GTX won't be available when I build..maybe.

Buy an eVGA, and use the step-up program.

my RMA replacement just showed up so I can run it in SLI with the old one and see how well two cards perform compared to the single 8800GT.

It will have to wait until tonight though because I have to leave for work.

Ok, I've missed the 8800GT hype train - what's supposedly so great about it (and what sort of PS does one's computer need to run it?)

Its cheaper and better than the 8800GTS which I think means it's second only to the 8800GTX but is significantly cheaper.

        near 8800GTX performance for $269.

It's supposed to perform better than the more expensive 8800 GTS--> It is in very high demand --> You can't find one for retail price due to retailer mark-up. So they're not really worth looking into right now. If you can see one for sale at $240 in a few months, you should get it, but right now, a lot of people are buying them based on a price/performance mis-truth.

yeah, at the $200-250 MSRP range they'd be good, but due to their initial scarcity they've been jacked up above the price/performance that makes them worth it in the first place. Once more come out and the prices settle down they'll be worth it, but not until then.

If you have to have a card now you might look into the 3870 from ATI which is competitive and quite fast in its own right.

So does this card need to be submerged in liquid nitrogen in order to keep it cool?

The reviews say it can get pretty damn hot (as cards go) but remains stable. The evga's I have seem to push a good amount of air but are noisy little fuckers.
