Microsoft Confirms Xbox 360 Arcade Model

10
Xbox head Robbie Bach confirmed to the Financial Times that the rumored Xbox 360 Arcade SKU will be replacing the existing Core model. The $279 SKU is already available at some retail outlets and includes an HDMI port, wireless controller, 256MB memory card, and five Xbox Live Arcade games: Boom-Boom Rocket, Pac-man, Uno, Feeding Frenzy, and Luxor 2.

"Arcade becomes [for us] the ability to bring in a new set of audiences. They're probably a little bit more casually focused, they're looking for a new family experience or they're more price focused," Bach said.

Though the Arcade model does not include an HDMI cable, it features an HDMI output, making all models of the Xbox 360 now HDMI compatible. Microsoft's Xbox.com website has not yet been updated to include the new model.

So by putting in a 256MB card, we can assume games will be allowed to require some storage? I just wish they would bring out the HDMI models here in Aus.

Besides, being packed with 5 games already, how much free space is there on that card anyway? I don't remember how big those are, but aren't they like 30MB each at least? That least roughly 100MB left, which is 2-4 more Arcade games.

Oh, the games comes on a DVD, just like the unplugged collections? I thought they'd load them onto the memory card, because arcade games off DVD is stupid. :( But I guess it makes sense, giving them room to actually buy a couple of games.

they could always buy the HD or another memory card if they manage to fill that up with XBLA stuff. Or if they really get into other XBL stuff.
