Episodic Comedy to Come to PlayStation 3 via Download, Courtesy of Super-Ego Games

A true episodic strategy to releasing downloadable video games has as yet been absent on consoles, but independent developer Super-Ego Games today announced plans to fill that void on PlayStation 3. The company is developing Rat Race, a series of comedy adventures to be made available via PlayStation Network starting this winter. Neither release schedules nor cost were given.

Episodes of Rat Race follow brand manager Tina Brooks of megalithic consumer goods company BiggCo. According to today's press release, Brooks is embroiled in "wacky, over-the-top, and wildly inappropriate situations" as well as "hilarious scenarios" and "outrageous situations."

Few actual gameplay details are provided, though the bulk of what is given focuses on the story and dialogue elements of the games. Super-Ego promises a dynamic conversation engine and advanced AI to convey its plot and characters.

Lending credence to the series' comedic claims is a laundry list of credits claimed by comedians who will appear in the episodes: Saturday Night Live, Chappelle's Show, Late Night with Conan O'Brian, Flight of the Conchords, Ugly Betty, Sex in the City, and My Name Is Earl.

Super-Ego Games previously developed Barbie Diaries (PC). The company's management has experience not only in online games and traditional game development but in toy development for Hasbro, Tiger, Fisher-Price, and others.
