Morning Discussion

Good morning, Shacknews. Do any good gaming this weekend? Played C&C3 for 360 and wasn't impressed. I don't really understand who can play an RTS on the console, I felt about as accurate as a frat boy with a 40oz taped to each hand. But that's what rentals are for. So did you see our contests? Today is the last day for ET:QW story submissions, but there is also the Orange Box MS Paint contest going on now. And did you see submissions and winners for the Halo 3 screen shot contest? Normally we'll see a bit more space between contests, but look at that workload of a release calendar, it's delightfully taskalicious! Random Mod of the Day: For Homeworld 2, Star Wars: Warlords. Quality mod you know of that doesn't get the attention it should? Let me know!

TF2 has ruined my life. And I like it that way.

I like getting behind a group of people in small spaces, like a room or a hallway and mowing them down.

I like it when an enemy spy just does an immediate 180 when he sees you as a pyro.

I like it when a spy cloaks to avoid you but you still toast his ass

I prefer a spy missing his backstab on me, and I turn around and promptly turn him into ashes.

Ooh I love spies that miss a backstab but then keep trying to stab me instead of shooting me

I had one spy try to stab me on 2fort yesterday. I was playing a sniper and he got me down to 1 health before I could pull out the gun. I ended up killing him while running backwards to the med cabinet.

I liked it better when half of the teams weren't pyros. The pyro was my favorite class before the patch and now that he's all powerful usually teams are 1/4-1/3 pyros.

Same here. The increased popularity has made me less likely to play one :(

Conversely, you'd be lucky to even have one Demoman on your team now.

I can't play that class for some reason. I guess I need to adapt my techniques, but after the pyro patch, it's my least played class.

Still my favorite, I basically just use sticky bombs for everything now, offense and defense. Grenade launcher is just for killing stationary targets or scaring people.

Just like demoman was, everyone was demo then it got nerfed and so peple moved to pyro. Its going to be like this for a long time methinks.

Multiplayer balance is a constantly moving target, as Blizzard has shown over the years

I was wondering how long it was going to take before people started experimenting with uber + other class.

I think medic + spy would be awesome. wouldn't need to cloak, just rush the base and stab everything.

They die too easily though, would the regen rate on the medic be enough? It could be a neat potential strategy or something... maybe to mess with the defense psychologically?

Spy disguised as heavy of the same team, pairs up with medic, turns around corner, bunch of defenders see this and prepare to focus their energy on this duo. The spy/med duck around the corner as the spy disguises to an enemy class, cloaks, and gets behind this defensive wall.

knife damage is pathetic when you can't backstab. I don't think an ubered spy would work very well at all.

Pyros are useless vs a Sentry wall. They will get knocked back out of damamge range and your uber wasted.

If you run straight up to it yeah, but if the sentry wall is by a corner or a ledge so that you can get in close an uber'd pyro can fuck shit up. I did this with Freshyk as the medic on dustbowl, I believe, before the pyro patch. This only works under the right circumstances, so yeah if things aren't going well vs mass sentries, I'd switch to demoman to try and clear that, even though I suck as demoman.

Ditto, but you still need demomen when the other team goes with mass sentry guns, especially when they're placed well. If they're not clumped together then pyros will get slaughtered.

It's been tough for me. I'm typically very good about my bed time, but TF2 has made that difficult. I enjoy it so much that I ignore the clock and suffer the next day for it.

I pretty much suck at it, not having played any on-line FPS games in several years now. I'd kill one or two guys and then die. Rinse, repeat.

That said, it's great fun and I'll get better with practice.
