The Princess Bride Gets Interactive

The Princess Bride, the Rob Reiner-directed 1987 cinematic classic, will undergo a transformation of fairy tale proportions when it appears in video game form next spring. Written by William Goldman, the film starred Cary Elwes (top), Robin Wright Penn (bottom), Andre the Giant, and Mandy Patinkin.

Known as True Love and High Adventure--The Official Princess Bride Game, the title will be an online download according to The Hollywood Reporter. No platforms were listed, though given developer Worldwide Biggies' pedigree, it will most likely be for PC and browser-based. A demo of the game will be packaged with The Princess Bride 20th Anniversary DVD, which is slated to release on November 13.

Past projects by Worldwide Biggies include Star vs. Star, a fantasy league in which players pick which celebrities they think will be in the most headlines per week, and Worldwide Fido, a canine-themed combination of Cute Overload and YouTube.

The Princess Bride marks the latest 1987 cult classic film to get the video game treatment. Earlier this year, Codemasters and SayDesign announced they were working on Dirty Dancing--The Video Game, inspired by Emile Ardolino and Eleanor Bergstein's Oscar-winning 1987 film.

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

I can't imagine this ending any way except poorly. :(

I thought they expressly stated that when they listed the other games they had made.

All we can do is just pretend it didn't happen. Trust me...it's better that way.
