The second expansion pack for Ensemble Studios' 2005 PC RTS Age of Empires III has gone gold and will hit North American stores October 23.

Announced this past May and co-developed by Rise of Nations creator Big Huge Games, The Asian Dynasties adds playable Asian civilizations, random map styles, 15 Asian "Wonders," and new gameplay elements, including additional ways of winning and trading. It will retail for $29.99 and requires the original Age of Empires III.

Will it ever be as good and awesome as the first one was? The second was fantastic, and I actually liked the 3rd but it seemed as if something was missing from the design. Obviously it's been successful in some capacity, but I didn't play it after I finished the campaign.

I'd love to see it "back to it's roots", I can't express how much fun I had with the originals strict historical civilizations and tech trees and campaigns. I'd love to see it done again with pretty.

If they remake AOE 1/2 to support 1920x1200, I'll dig up someone's grave and roll the corpse over.

I think that, if anything is going to salvage Age of Empires 3 it would be this expansion. The guys at Big Huge Games are a hugely intelligent lot, and I think this expansion should prove surprisingly enjoyable.
