Wii Sets UK Record with Million Console Mark
"The non-stop demand for Wii even in the traditionally slow sales periods for video games in the UK is clearly behind this record breaking achievement," said Nintendo UK manager David Yarnton in an included statement.
Last week, the Wii and Nintendo DS took 68% and 86% of console and handheld sales in the UK, respectively, according to Chart Track. As of June, worldwide sales numbers for Wii and DS were 9.27 million and 47.27 million, respectively.

I don't understand how this console can be getting record-breaking sales. I'd gladly contribute to these sales, but I haven't the slightest idea how to go about buying one. No stores have it for sale!

Personally I'd wait until later this year when (hopefully) Nintendo will have a bigger surge of production for the Christmas season, even if that means more people will be out buying them. Even so, I don't think the Wii is worth all the hassle of getting one; I don't know how many games for hardcore gamers are going to make it out after Mario Kart, and I fear the Wii will fall into the path that the Gamecube took (and no i don't hate the Wii).

I don't think it'll fall into the same path as the GC. The GC failed because it had relatively poor sales so there wasn't much incentive for developers to make games for it. The Wii is pretty much the exact opposite. It now has the largest install base for this current generation so developers and publishers would have to be stupid to ignore it at this point.
