Acclaimed PSP developer Ready At Dawn Studios has confirmed that it is developing an original games based on a new intellectual property. The company has previously only worked with existing properties created by other studios.

Responsible for bringing the Naughty Dog-helmed Jak & Daxter property to PSP in the form of Daxter, Ready At Dawn is praised by many for its technical expertise of the PSP hardware. The studio is currently handling the upcoming God of War: Chains of Olympus on PSP (preview), a prequel to SCE Santa Monica's PlayStation 2 series.

Along with the first teasings of its new property, the company announced the hiring of Dan Arey, who served as senior and creative director at Jak & Daxter (PS2) and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3) developer Naughty Dog, as Ready at Dawn's creative director.

"It was actually a very easy decision to make," said Arey, "because when I first got the chance to hear about this new property, I immediately knew I had to be a part of it...These guys have taken the time to mature their team, their technology and this new concept. Believe me, this is going to be something special."

No further details on the new property, such as a target platform or estimated release, were provided.

Earlier this year, Ready At Dawn co-founder and VP of creative development Ru Weerasuriya revealed there was still more performance to coax out of the PSP hardware. "We've pulled off everything up to now that we could, and I can honestly tell you there's more; there's more there," he said in a Shacknews interview on God of War: Chains of Olympus. "There are certain things that we've already found out that are not going to be in [God of War: Chains of Olympus], because we thought 'you know what, it'd be really cool if we do that, but [let's] maybe not explore that area because it will open up a whole new can of worms.'"

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.
