News Bytes: Lair Delayed

4
Convention season is here and in full swing. Hot off the heels of San Diego Comic-Con, we have BlizzCon, QuakeCon, and SOE's Fan Faire this week. Oh, and Penny Arcade's PAX is coming soon too.

That said, I think I'll hang back here in Indiana and watch from a distance, but you kids have fun out there. Do me a favor though: if you're at QuakeCon, ruffle Chris Remo's hair for me. And if you see Nick Breckon out at BlizzCon, tell him his shoe is untied. Yes, even if it isn't. Bonus points if you or a friend can knot his laces together without getting caught.

As for tonight's bytes, we have word of a brief Lair (PS3) delay, DiRT on PlayStation 3, new content for Forza Motorsport 2 (X360), and the Record of Lunia War (PC) open beta.

  • Lair delayed

    [ps3]

Factor 5's upcoming dragon-focused PlayStation 3 title Lair has been pushed back from its previously announced and confirmed August 14 release date. The game will now ship to stores on September 4.

"Natural challenges that arose while finalizing the offline game to include key online features-such as leaderboards and medal systems-have led to the difficult choice of pushing back the release date," wrote SCEA producer Ryan Hamlyn on the official PlayStation blog.

  • DiRT muddies PlayStation 3

    [ps3]

A PlayStation 3 version of Codemaster's off-road racer DiRT (PC, X360) will arrive in September, the company announced today. It is said to support numerous force feedback wheels, including some originally designed for the PlayStation 2, along with 7.1 and 5.1 surround sound.

  • Forza 2 content hits Xbox Live Marketplace

    [xbox360]

The first batch of downloadable content for Turn 10's Xbox 360 racing simulator Forza Motorsport 2 hit Xbox Live Marketplace today. Two packs are currently available, the free Nisson Tournament Pack--containing the 2007 Nissan Altima, Sentra, and 350Z--and the 50 Microsoft Point ($0.62) Peugeot 908, a virtual rendition of the vehicle that placed second in the latest 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance challenge.

  • Record of Lunia War open beta begins

    [pc]

An open beta for Record of Lunia War, the latest PC title from South Korean game developer allm Corp, is currently underway. Described by the company as an "Action Arcade MMORPG," the newest version of the game features a new guild system, an enhanced messaging system, and an updated user interface.

More information, including the opportunity to sign up for the beta, can be found at the game's official site.

Didn't Lair just go gold? If I'm not thinking of another game, then it sounds like some clusterfuckery is going on at Factor 5.

I thought I remember mention of this last week, or the week before...

A couple days after they were defending themselves against the upcoming shitty reviews.

Yeah, reviews now based off a copy of the game that won't match what ends up on store shelves, apparently. I wonder how far into the manufacturing process they were with the disks when they decided to do this revision?

Sounds like the delay only pertains to online functionality--leaderboards and such--so I wouldn't be surprised to see the game retain the same content. You can't make major changes to a game with an added three weeks, especially since they would have to retest the whole thing.

I had a Sony friend say that things with Factor 5 didn't go smoothly at all, so this seems to fit his description.

Wonder if they are making motion controls optional after the bad reviews.
