Sony to Join in Bringing it Home With PS3

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced its intention to deliver game content released during E3 to PlayStation 3 owners via its online PlayStation Network. The news follows Microsoft's announcement this week that it plans to reprise its similar Bringing it Home initiative.

"In order to continue to meet the diverse needs and interests of our PlayStation fan base, Sony Computer Entertainment America will offer exclusive content for download from the PlayStation Network during the week of E3 2007," the company said in a statement released today.

Media will be drawn from both first- and third-party titles, and will consist of trailers, editorial content, and the entirety of the company's E3 press conference. There was no indication as to whether playable demos will be released. Sony will provide additional coverage through PlayStation.com and its recently launched official blog. Shacknews will also be providing live reporting from all E3 press conferences.

Sony plans to announce more details regarding its content delivery plans on Monday, July 9. E3 is set to run in Santa Monica from Wednesday, July 11 to Friday, July 13.

I'm glad they will be doing something, even though it will take 10+ hours to download anything from their "Playstation Network".

Mine has always been fast. Might want to troubleshoot.

      10 hours?

A full demo (1GB+) takes me around 3 hours on my broadband.

You say that anything takes 10+ hours, right? So I imagine you must either have a shitty connection or you must be talking out of your ass.

The latter seems more likely, especially given the amount of sexually insecure Xbox 360 wankers that are rampant on various sites.

Oh boy. Pretentious. I have a fairly strong grasp of how networking works. Plain and simple, I get shit download speeds from PSN. I get fast everywhere else whether it's XBLive, Fileshack, Fileplanet, Microsoft, etc. I know it's not a router/firewall issue. I run an Cisco ASA 5505 and have it configured correctly. Reading the PSN forums though, I'm not the only one complaining about it. Hmm, just checked, it appears that came from my fingertips, not my ass.

fanboys can be scary. pretty funny the stuff they will say about people who badmouth any aspect of their platform, even if it's from personal experience.

you really seem like a sexually insecure xbox 360 wanker to me, since you, you know, have actually downloaded stuff from the playstation network.

Well okay, 10 hours is not the average. It did however take me 10 hours to pull down the GTHD demo. Sometimes it's better, for the most part it would seem I am averaging really slow network speeds. For instance, 150MB trailers take around an hour to download. The same 150MB trailer from XBL takes 3-5 minutes. I don't get it.

Maybe it's different where you live, but here I get >1000K/s from the PSN. I wish I'd get 10% that from Live ;-(

Just like everything on the internet, the relative proximity in hops to the user determines how good the service is. For some people Live will suck, for other people PSN will suck. It's more a fault of the internet than with PS3 hardware.

Exactly, but at least in the case of MS I'd expect them to supply local servers for their paying subscribers
