Evening Reading

So yeah... wanted to do the Thursday demo fun again today but there just wasn't anything released. Pretty much everyone is storing up their fun for E3. But uh... hey the GRAW2 demo came out today! Ah well, on with the most important news of the day:

Lastly, here is something I'm sure women won't shut up about.

Steve Gibson is the cofounder of Shacknews.com. Originally known as sCary's Quakeholio back in 1996, Steve is now President of Gearbox Publishing after selling Shacknews to GameFly in 2009.

Okay. You guys win, I lose.

I was a bit too harsh with my Transformers review and will type up a new one focused on pretending like I didn't see all 10 different trailers beforehand. To me, what surprised you guys like hell since you didn't come in with any sort of clue what was going on, is what I sorta glossed over completely. Part of the problem however was that I was probably more confused with what was going on that you guys. Why the hell was Barricade wasting his time bumping into Sam like that in car mode, and things like that. I saw this on a DLP screen and I swear to god it seemed a lot smaller than the one I normally go to.

So this weekend I'll go see the damn movie again. Even my co-workers thought I was fucking nuts for hating it. Sheeesh. :(

It'd probably work out better for you if you treated it like a separate incarnation of the series, sorta like Beast Wars, and not a direct clone of G1.

The human acting in this movie was lame. The battles between the transformers were awesome!

I can see why some people wouldn't like it. Go see it again but don't be shocked if you still don't like it.

I'm not sure I'd like it as much seeing it again because part of what I loved about it the first time was the Holy Shit factor. I was thinking "What are they going to do next?" the whole time. It was just so over the top in the best way possible.

so, in other words, it was just another michael bay movie?

Other Bay movies take themselves way too seriously. Armageddon, Bad Boys 2. Jesus.

I liked this because it didn't take itself seriously at all. If it had, I'm sure I would not have liked it nearly as much.

I agree. I wasn't pissed I paid for it or anything because the CG was great, but everything else about the movie was instantly forgettable.

I think that your assesment of the dilog that the Transformers had was right on the money, not enough and even disjointed at times (Starscream you failed me for the last time/One shall fall...)

I don't know why you're going to bother seeing it again, a lot of people seemed to agree that it was a shit movie.
      http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/transformers_the_movie/

Using the excuse of "well it's an action movie, of course it's dumb" is no real excuse for an action movie having plenty of flaws. Terminator 2 and Aliens are both well made movies. The idea of time traveling robots is just as absurd as robots that can turn into cars, but neither Terminator 1 or 2 were like "OH HAY GUYS WE AREN'T TAKING THIS SERIOUSLY EITHER!" (although I heard that 3 did and that was apparently a shit movie).

Was your review pretty nitpicky? Sure, but it seemed to point out plenty of stupid shit that was in the movie. I kind of doubt that you're going to enjoy it on your second view, it's not like a David Lynch movie or something where you'll see different things on your second view.

The movie itself was terrible. Watching transformers bash into each other was awesome, but the movie itself was just bad.

Make your judgement based on whether you like it or not. Who knows, you may like it more the second time around. Don't get down on yourself if you still end up hating it just because other people likeit.

You weren't really harsh. You gave your opinion, and why. Unlike the "god that was shit" people, you also talked about the parts you thought were great (like the transforming).

I really enjoyed it, I thought it was a great popcorn flick, but nothing more than that. I'm pumped for sequels, and it's reminded me of the things I liked about Transformers toys as a kid. It's funny, the area you criticize the most (that the Autobots do not stay true to character) is what I thought was great - I always thought those guys were too straight-laced :D
