Web Gaming Show Host Detained for Murder Threats

47
Andrew Rosenblum, the main host of the web-based gaming show GameLife, was picked up and detained by Boston police yesterday after the 20-year-old threatened to mimic the tragic events of Monday's shootings at Virginia Tech. In an email to a former girlfriend, Rosemblum (pictured left) stated that he would kill the unidentified email recipient and her loved ones, then turn the gun on himself. The email was received on the same day as the VT shootings occurred.

"(I)'m gonna (expletive) bring a gun to your school and kill you and K (another female student) and everybody you love. It's gonna be VT all over again... Seriously I'm just that demented," wrote Rosenblum in the email, according to police reports claimed to be obtained by the Boston Herald. He added, "Killing people can change people's lives forever. (T)he best is in the end when I pull the trigger on myself, too."

Police have obtained a warrant for Rosenblum's arrest on the charge of intent to do bodily harm, and the arrest is expected to be carried out in the coming days. Rosenblum is currently in police custody. This week's threat follows the Boston University student's reported harassment of his intended victim, who had gone on several dates with Rosenblum but broke up with him earlier this school term. Restraining orders have been filed forbidding Rosenblum from contacting either of the two individuals named in his email.

Rosenblum's show GameLife--not to be confused with the entirely unrelated Wired News blog Game|Life--rocketed to internet fame last year, arguably largely due to the intensely awkward and unpracticed mannerisms and demeanor of its three co-hosts and two contributing presenters. GameLife received sponsorship from Ziff Davis-owned gaming site 1UP, which provided Rosenblum and company with E3 access last year. The show soon partnered with media giant MTV to provide content to its Overdrive internet channel.

"I feel like everything is about to explode," said Rosenblum when announcing the MTV collaboration last May.
