  • RedOctane leaks Guitar Hero 3 platform, release info

    [ps2] [ps3] [xbox360] [wii]

A presumedly accidental posting in RedOctane's Support Center confirmed that Guitar Hero 3 will be heading to PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii later this fall.

Earlier today, the answer to a question inquiring about Guitar Hero on Wii and PS3 read "Guitar Hero 3 for the Playstation 2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii are currently scheduled for release in the United States in Fall of 2007." The entry no longer contains any reference to Guitar Hero 3.

With original developer Harmonix working on the instrument-based Rock Band (PS3, X360), Neversoft will now be handling development of the Guitar Hero franchise. Prior to the release of PlayStation 3 and Wii last year, Activision CEO Robert Kotick stated that the Guitar Hero franchise will be released on "every significant new format."

  • The Red Star rises again

    [ps2]

After floating in limbo for nearly three years, the comic book inspired beat and shoot 'em up The Red Star will finally see release on PlayStation 2 thanks to XS Games. The publisher plans to have the game on store shelves April 24 at a $19.99 price point.

Based off Christian Gossett's graphic novel of the same name, The Red Star is set in an alternate universe where Russia has become a superpower based off advances in magic and technology. Originally in development for PlayStation 2 and Xbox by Acclaim, the game was left without a publisher when the company went bankrupt in 2004. XS Games had not responded to a Shacknews inquiry regarding the Xbox version as of press time.

  • DS exhibits Namco Museum

    [ds]

Namco today announced Namco Museum DS, the latest in a franchise that has seen release on every major platform since it began on the original PlayStation.

Of the eight games contained on the compilation, 2003's Pac-Man VS. represents the most surprising. The former GameCube exclusive allowed one player to assume the role of Pac-Man by connecting a Game Boy Advance to the console, providing them with full view of the maze. Meanwhile, up to three other players hunted Pac-Man as ghosts, with a partial view of their surroundings displayed on the television. This forced those players to work together in their attempts to stop Pac-Man from collecting all the pellets in a level. Pac-Man VS. on the DS will support up to four player wireless battles, and through the magic of download play, only one player will need to have the actual cartridge.

Pac-Man, Galaga, Xevious, Dig Dug II, Galaxian, Mappy, and The Tower of Druaga round out the other games offered on the collection, which is set to release this summer.
