Encore Brings Defcon to US Retailers

2
UK-based developer Introversion Software has reached an agreement with publisher Encore to distribute its nuclear war simulator Defcon in the United States. Encore's initial order calls for 50,000 copies of the game. Pinnacle Software, the UK distributor of Defcon, will continue to distribute the game in the UK.

Defcon is available in stores now for $29.99. It can also be purchased via digital download from Steam for $14.95 or from Introversion's online store for $19.50.

With all due respect to Encore, do they actually think it's a good idea to sell it in stores for 2X what it fetches on Steam?

Then again maybe this will work - Counter-Strike sold like a million copies retail even though it was a free HL mod in a box.

And I guess this is the alternate argument - in this case no box really does mean lower digital dist. costs
