      Erm, a Mac?

      Mac OS X 10.0 (Cheetah), March 24, 2001
      Mac OS X 10.1 (Puma), September 25, 2001 - free for 10.0 users, $129 for OS 9 users
      Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar), August 24, 2002 - $129 upgrade
      Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), October 24, 2003 - $129 upgrade
      Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), April 29, 2005 - $129 upgrade
      Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), TBD - $129 upgrade

And the latest iPods require Tiger, though there's no real reason to.

Look, it's Microsoft - they have to try and give you incentive to upgrade to Vista. Don't want to? Fine. But don't think they're trying to pull some fast one on you. There's probably some deep OS changes to facilitate DX10 (DX9 was released in 2002 so it's not like they haven't had time to work on it) and even if it is an artificial requirement, so what? Name me one DX10 game that won't also have a DX9 compatability mode.

I'm hoping some smart folks port dx10 to XP so I can use XP until 2041

Actually, the latest iPods require the newest -iTunes- which supports 10.3.9 (Jaguar) still.

Ah - I had the wrong cat. Someone was complaining that their iPod required the latest iTunes which required a newer version of Mac OS X than their Mac could handle, meanwhile the Windows XP people who are running on a 6-year-old OS can use it just fine.

I don't understand why this game can't be played in XP... there has to be some sort of hack that makes it work.

This forced-upgrade to Vista for DX10 is the kind of shit that makes me want to ditch PC gaming altogether

There is a lot of new shit in DX10, its fucking hot. The new shader stuff is definately really fucking awesome.

Sorry bud, lots of people were paid to write all the new goodies in DX10, and you aren't getting it for free. Suck it up and fucking support some of this hot shit.

Ok... but I don't think any of this hot new shit is being used in Geometry Wars. There's no technical reason why it can't run in XP, so this is just lame.

The shader framework for Xbox360 and DX10 is VERY similar.

Dx10 is entirely shader driven, as is Xbox360, dx9 however is not. Basically if they wanted this ported to dx9, it would probably be more work than porting it to dx10.
