Sony Pictures Entertainment to Helm Metal Gear Film

14
Following the D.I.C.E. Summit keynote address during which Sony Online Entertainment announced a new MMO, Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chairmand and Sony Pictures Digital president Yair Landau revealed to GameSpot that SPE will be handling the film adaptation of Konami's legendary Metal Gear franchise. Confirmation of the film was reported last year in developer Kojima Productions' tongue-in-cheek ShowMaybe? publication distributed at E3; the designer also noted that, contrary to then recent rumors, notorious game-to-film director Uwe Boll was not involved in the movie, nor had he ever been.

"We're working with the Metal Gear guys. It's a very cinematic game, it really lends itself to movie telling," said Landau on the project. "But the question is, 'How do you translate Snake's experience into a full arc that conforms to what audiences expect on the large screen?'"

There was apparently no mention of the current status of the Metal Gear movie, or when it will be expected to hit the big screen. Landau also mentioned that SPE may go forward with an EverQuest movie handled by "one of [his] favorite producers," whose identity went unrevealed. "There are other games we are looking to develop," Landau added.

If he was younger, he would fit the role perfectly. Metal Gear Solid was inspired by Escape from New York.

Exactly! It's just the kind of meta-reference joke that Kojima loves!

Hugh Jackman. Look at him in X-men and tell me theyre not the same person. Plus, Hayter wrote the X-men movies, so he and Jackman should know each other!
