Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike Announced

21
As had been expected, EA today officially announced the Northern Strike booster pack for Battlefield 2142. The press release pretty much confirms what we know, while mentioning a March release which is a bit more specific than the Spring indication we had before.
Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike features three new maps, including the infamous WWII battle scene at the Bridge at Remagen, an Alpine Titan docking harbour in Port Bavaria and a claustrophobic showdown in the Liberation of Leipzig. The booster pack also features new vehicles including the EU's heavily armed IFV Goliath and the PAC's hovering light IFV Hachimoto in addition to new unlocks, new badges and ribbons, new gameplay and more.

You can find a trailer on FileShack, and we have five screenshots here.

And so it begins...was hoping for Tribes-style jetpacks at least but Titan mode in an urban setting sounds interesting.

I never understood the draw of jetpacks. Can you imagine 64 players all flying around independently in an urban environment, you'd never be able to hit anything or take any ground.

The Secret Weapons expansion for BF1942 had jetpacks. You couldn't select them though. There were like 2 of them lying around on each map that people could pick up.

Secret Weapons was kinda silly IMO, the jet in that was insane.

Hard to control. It could lap an entire map in seconds.

Have you played Tribes? It's not like jetpack use is unlimited, and good players can get MAs pretty easy.

lol yes, but it'd be fun to use them to get on top of buildings and so forth...

Seemed to work out fine in Tribes.

Have you played Tribes? In any case not everybody would have the packs and most definitely you'd put some restrictions on it's usage in terms of height and speed. It would also take up a full unlock and probably be hand operated.

However from what I've read they tried jets in early on and could not get them to work so I don't see them coming.

Dude, there were different classes, heavies could fly for about 5 seconds, while a light could fly for a lot longer but could go down in 1-2 shots. Its all about timing and such.
