    Oh dear god. People can bitch about WW2 games all they like but there is FAR more variety in that genre than the deeply familiar and similar fantasy MMO obsession much of the industry seems to have right now. God dammit, Auto Assault, Anarchy Online Motor City Online and EVE should have set a trend for innovation, regardless of their varying quality. In particular, no one seems to care that EVE is successful based on significant genuine innovation in a largely self-copying genre.

    Given the cost of these things you'd think they'd realise that doing the same thing as everyone else isn't safe but dangerously boring and more likely to get lost in a the sea of copies.

      Preach on. The fantasy-theme has just been beaten to death in videogames. If I have to build a band of "warriors, mages, archers, and thieves" to save one more generic "kingdom" from "dragons and elemental evil (aka orc-looking monsters)" I may gouge my eyes out.
