More Reports of Modern Combat Call of Duty from IW
For months, rumors have been circulating that Call of Duty 4--or whatever it ends up being named--will break with the Call of Duty series' long running World War II theme and focus on modern era combat. Such a game would in all likelihood be developed for PC by series creator Infinity Ward; developer Treyarch just finished up development on the console-only Call of Duty 3 (PS2, Xbox, PS3, X360, Wii). The latest site with rumors of Infinity Ward's alleged modern combat shooter is Amped IGO, which cites "a reliable source close to the Call of Duty development teams." Amped IGO also reports that Treyarch and Infinity Ward will continue to trade off on series entries from this point forward: According to our source, Call of Duty 4 will be developed by Infinity Ward, the developer behind the first and second installments. The three-way deal established between Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Activision states that Infinity Ward will develop all even numbered titles while Treyarch develops the odd numbered games, such as Call of Duty 3.
Shacknews contacted Activision regarding these reports, but representatives declined to comment.
