F.E.A.R. Extraction Point Demo

21

The F.E.A.R. Extraction Point demo is now available for download over at FileShack. The demo is about half a gig so happy downloading and grab a sandwich! The expansion pack demo allows you to check out the new Subway environment, fight against the new Shadow enemy, and blast everything in sight with the minigun weapon.

Shot demo but good action the new enemy in the blood room was freaky as hell.

On the negative note, i got serious bad FPS i dunno if its cause of bad coding but the demo also lacked thoose effects like shooting holes in walls etc.. yet i got such crap fps in the blood room.

I take it you mean that it's worse than the original game? FEAR was known for its high demand.

It's just a case of the devs going a little too crazy with the lighting/props in that area. Not anything like the FPS in the expansion has gotten a lot worse than the original game. On my:

        Opteron 165 @ 2.7, X1800GTO @ 681/630, 2gb DDR @ 225 mhz 1T 2.5-3-3-8

        And the settings of:
1280x960, medium textures, Volumetric lights off, 2x AA, 4x AF, most everything else on maximum.

I got nice and playable framerates of 35 - 80 except in that "blood room" where my performance also dropped to about 10 - 15 FPS. I'd suggest we tell Sierra that that isn't so great rather than just write the expansion off.

Otherwise this was a rather uninteresting demo, a lot like the original FEAR demo just not as fresh.

Alright so I revisited the "blood room" issue and found, that oddly enough after I clean out all the enemies if I save & reload framerates go from ~10 FPS to 20 - 35 FPS which makes much more sense. I played around with renaming the exe to FEAR.exe and Cat AI levels but none of that seemed to make a difference.

What's your setup? I don't really want to have to download this just so I know it runs on my computer.

Stupid 9800 Pro :( I just can't even begin to think about replacing my motherboard/processor just so I can get a PCIe card :(

Ouch! I'd say 10 FPS is definitely unplayable. Framerates remained comfortable for me, even in the blood room. I'm running Intel Core2 e6400, 2gb memory, and a 256mb 7900GT video card.

so they smeared blood all over the wall and then conveniently placed the shelf and stuff back there untouched? those considerate monsterses!
