First Post!
Wow I thought for sure that I was gonna win that poll, thanks ;) * group hug * hey don't touch my ass. Ok so right, I started working on the enhancing of the search engine. I didn't get too many suggestions, but post #12 is exactly what I'm gonna try and do. There will also be a "top 20 searches" and "top 20 last searches" so you can find out what kind of horrifying things your fellow shack visitors are searching for. As those of you probably wanting to attend saw yesterday, the CPL announced a delay of of registration of the Razer / CPL event in April because of heavy loads that caused the registration software to fail. I can't believe this is happening to so many big LAN events. It looks so stupid. It's happened before and now it's still happening. You are shooting for around a 1000 people at attend. That means more than a thousand will try and register. That means on the day that you open registration more than a thousand people will hit your site at the same time for multiple times. A lot of processes will be started. That = not good. Install mod_perl, it will help. Sure it may still slow down a whole lot, but it will help. Also configure your Apache right. There, I'm done :) note by Steve: It was actually the 3rd party credit card authentication server that couldnt handle the load. Not CPL's servers. You can also see a comment (#23) here by Angel Munoz, the CPL president.
